Citrus Fresh Start, 2024
Hand appliqué and hand quilting. I started saving all my fruit and vegetable nets after buying a particularly striking bag of pink onions. The bright mesh against the black and white made me think of images of deep space. I enjoyed sewing this piece thinking of past selves, the vastness of the universe, and what to cook for dinner. The spotty fabric is an old favourite jumpsuit, ripped and no longer my style, and the orange velvet is from a pair of vintage curtains. For batting and backing, I used an old wool blanket and bedsheet, and I used second-hand thread for the quilting. Made for Festival of Quilts, 2024.
